Football Recap: Norcross Extends Winning Streak to Three

Norcross entered their tilt with Berkmar on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 35-19 win over the Patriots. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Blue Devils' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Patriots are ranked 341st).

Kendall Edwards had a dynamite game, rushing for 75 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Norcross, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jayson Jones, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Norcross' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gray Nicklaus, Tyler Jackson, and Deandre Newson Jr, who each picked up one sack apiece. Jayden Clermont got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Norcross' record is now 6-2. As for Berkmar, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, Norcross will welcome North Gwinnett at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 8.6 points per game this season, so the Blue Devils' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Berkmar, they will head out to face off against Meadowcreek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
