Preview: Pen Argyl Green Knights vs. Saucon Valley Panthers

The Pen Argyl Green Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Saucon Valley Panthers at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pen Argyl focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.

Pen Argyl suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Catasauqua by a score of 44-42.

Despite the defeat, Pen Argyl saw an underclassman step up: Mason Soos scored 13 points along with seven assists. Another player making a difference was Jack Mclaughlin, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.

Pen Argyl struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-4) when they can't control their own glass like that.

Meanwhile, Saucon Valley fought the good fight in their overtime match against Salisbury Township on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Falcons 43-38. Saucon Valley's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite their loss, Saucon Valley saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Braden Weiss, who scored 11 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Grim, who scored six points along with three blocks.

Pen Argyl's record now sits at 2-13. As for Saucon Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pen Argyl have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Saucon Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 30.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Pen Argyl came up short against Saucon Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 37-30. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Saucon Valley's Jack Robertson, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that Pen Argyl knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
