The nation's top volleyball team the past two years could host Assumption and Torrey Pines in a three-way meet next season if plans work out.

The
Papillion-LaVista South (Papillion, Neb.) Titans have won two straight Nebraska Class A state titles, they were the top team in the country last year and they currently sit atop the
MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by Army National Guard.
And while the Titans feature three of the top players in the nation in
Kadie Rolfzen,
Amber Rolfzen and
Kelly Hunter, the knock against the program is that it rarely plays against the top programs in the country.
That could change next year, however, as preparations are underway for Papillion-LaVista South to host a three-way meet between 15-time Kentucky state champion
Assumption (Louisville, Ky.) and perennial California power
Torrey Pines (San Diego).
According to a report in the Lincoln Journal Star, Papillion-LaVista South athletic director Jeff Johnson is working with John Tawa of PrepVolleyball.com to bring the three teams together. Although nothing is finalized, the matchup would occur in October in either Omaha or Lincoln.
Papillion-LaVista South coach Gwen Egbert welcomes the challenge.
"I hope it happens," Egbert told the Journal Star. "Playing great competition like that only makes you better."
The Titans dominated Nebraska competition this year, but they did play a
close match against out-of-state foe St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kansas), one of the top teams in the country. While the Titans nearly suffered their first loss in two years, they did manage to hold on for the 3-2 victory.
Papillion-LaVista South takes an 82-match win streak into next season after finishing with back-to-back 41-0 records the past two years.
