Baseball Game Preview: Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos vs. Villa Grove Blue Devils

The Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos are taking a road trip to square off against the Villa Grove Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Neither Cerro Gordo/Bement nor Villa Grove posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Cerro Gordo/Bement lost 9-1 to Cumberland on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Villa Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Argenta-Oreana on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to the Bombers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Thomas Vandeventer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Cerro Gordo/Bement's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Villa Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.

Cerro Gordo/Bement skirted past Villa Grove 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
