Pojoaque Valley took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Moriarty, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Elks/Elkettes had just enough and edged out the Pintos 3-2 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Elks/Elkettes as it put an end to their nine-match losing streak.

Pojoaque Valley wouldn't go down easily and took Moriarty into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 15-10.

When it comes to explaining why Moriarty lost, don't look at Kristina Means. Despite the final result, she had 32 digs and six aces. Means has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times she's played.

Pojoaque Valley's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-18. As for Moriarty, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Coincidentally, Pojoaque Valley and Moriarty will both be playing Espanola Valley the next time they take the court. The Pintos will head out to face the Sundevils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Elks/Elkettes will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
