Basketball Recap: Catawba Ridge Takes a Loss

Catawba Ridge won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They came up short against the South Point Red Raiders, falling 54-31. The Copperheads were probably out for revenge after losing 66-47 to them when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Catawba Ridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooks Dority posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Dority is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season.

Amya Graham was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 16 boards for South Point. That makes it three consecutive games in which Graham has scored at least a third of South Point's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Toney Milton, who had ten points and six steals.

With the loss, Catawba Ridge broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. As for South Point, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Catawba Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-17 victory against York Prep on the 10th. As for South Point, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-25 defeat against Clover on the 10th.
