Softball Recap: Fairfield Drops Season-High Score on Angola

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fairfield). They put the hurt on the Angola Hornets with a sharp 19-9 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Lynelle Penrose and Preslee Caouette did most of the damage at the plate: Penrose went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Caouette went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Penrose a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Yoder, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Fairfield lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.

The win made it two in a row for Fairfield and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Angola, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairfield will challenge Jimtown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jimmies have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Angola, they will take on Lakeland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
