The Altoona Mountain Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Cumberland Valley Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Altoona had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Chambersburg on Monday. The Mountain Lions were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Trojans. The game was the first time the Mountain Lions have beaten the Trojans on their field since April 15, 2022.
Gavin Albright made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Stroup, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Joseph Speece was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cumberland Valley beat Ephrata 9-6 on Friday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mountaineers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Spencer Livelsberger tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.
On the hitting side, Caden Lloyd was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Micah LaPila also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Altoona's record is now 8-5. As for Cumberland Valley, their record now sits at 9-3.
Altoona beat Cumberland Valley 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountain Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
