Baseball Recap: University Now 11-3 over Last 14 Games

There's no place like home for University, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let the Preston Knights get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

James Bryner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, University let Brance McCune and Baret Shuba run wild. McCune went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Shuba went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. McCune has become a key player for University: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brock Shuba, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Preston only posted an OBP of .111.

University has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Preston, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11-1.

University didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Morgantown on the 16th. Preston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
