Softball Recap: Lawrence County Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Lawrence County came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Hatton Hornets. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-2 two weeks ago.

McKinley McCaghren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lawrence County let Bentlee Cross and LA Norwood run wild. Cross scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Norwood went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Cross has posted over her last ten contests.

Lawrence County's win bumped their record up to 32-9-1. As for Hatton, their loss dropped their record down to 12-20-2.

Lawrence County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-4 victory against Deshler on the 12th. As for Hatton, they will face off against Rogers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
