Softball Game Preview: Barron Collier Cougars vs. Aubrey Rogers Patriots

The Barron Collier Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Aubrey Rogers Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Barron Collier's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Barron Collier and Gulf Coast meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again two weeks ago. Barron Collier fell just short of Gulf Coast by a score of 15-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (13), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

Gianna Frino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Gianna Arroyo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles.

Frino wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Barron Collier kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Aubrey Rogers came up short against Southwest Florida Christian on Tuesday and fell 8-3.

Sofia Ardezzone was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

The defeat snapped Barron Collier's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-2 record. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Aubrey Rogers, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Barron Collier hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Aubrey Rogers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Barron Collier might still be hurting after the 18-8 defeat they got from Aubrey Rogers when the teams last played back in February. Can Barron Collier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
