Baseball Recap: Richlands Drops Highest Score of Season Against East Duplin

Richlands hadn't done well against East Duplin recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Richlands Wildcats skirted past the East Duplin Panthers 10-9. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tanner Brinson made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Brinson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Marcus Branthoover was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ashton Courdle, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-5.

Richlands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Richlands has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. East Duplin's loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richlands will head out to challenge Swansboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last four games Richlands has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for East Duplin, they will head out on the road to take on Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. East Duplin's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Wallace-Rose Hill's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
