Volleyball Recap: Lilli Combs Key Part of Team Effort in Pioneers Win

If West Wilkes wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Watauga, they should've done a better job of containing Caroline Childers. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Blackhawks with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday for which the team can thank Childers, who had 15 digs and three aces. She has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last eight times she's played.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-12, 25-16.

Watauga's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lilli Combs, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Watauga was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September of 2024.

The win got Watauga back to even at 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watauga will face off against Hickory at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for West Wilkes, they will challenge Avery County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
