The Tallmadge Blue Devils will square off against the Chardon Hilltoppers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Tallmadge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Tallmadge is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Walsh Jesuit just ended the team's nine-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.
Larissa Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sophia Paonessa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Chardon came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted since April 14th.
Not much got past Alexa Anderson, who gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Perry off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Anderson, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Chardon pushed their record up to 18-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Tallmadge, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tallmadge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .384. However, it's not like Chardon struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tallmadge came out on top in a nail-biter against Chardon when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
