Baseball Recap: Asheboro Hybrid Academy Wins Going Away Against Shining Light Academy

Asheboro Hybrid Academy's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Shining Light Academy Knights a 12-0 shutout. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Seth Autry made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Autry was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Asheboro Hybrid Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Landon Watson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Asheboro Hybrid Academy is 5-1 when Watson posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trent Pressley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Asheboro Hybrid Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .750. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

Asheboro Hybrid Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Shining Light Academy, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Asheboro Hybrid Academy will host Union Grove Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Shining Light Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sheets Memorial Christian at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
