Baseball Preview: North Monterey County Condors vs. San Lorenzo Valley Cougars
North Monterey County is 0-3 against San Lorenzo Valley since April of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Condors will take on the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. North Monterey County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so San Lorenzo Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
North Monterey County is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since March 24th on Friday. They fell just short of Everett Alvarez by a score of 6-4. Tyler Baldwin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Baldwin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Baldwin wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Greg Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for San Lorenzo Valley's offense. They fell just short of Harbor by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Jordan Renteria was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
North Monterey County's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for San Lorenzo Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.
