Baseball Recap: Pendleton County Has No Trouble Against Newport

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. Pendleton County were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Newport. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for Pendleton County this season.

Pendleton County got a great performance from Colton Ortlieb as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Ortlieb also allowed no hits, which is notable because Pendleton County is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 7-10-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Carter Glahn was a standout: he got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jayden Frisch was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Pendleton County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Newport, they are on a 55-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-30.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pendleton County will square off against Bishop Brossart at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Newport, they will head out on the road to square off against Villa Madonna at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
