Softball Recap: Nicholas County Comes Up Short

Nicholas County had lost seven straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 14-12-1 to make it eight. They came up short against the Fleming County Panthers, falling 12-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bluejackets of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Sidney Sexton made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three doubles. Lambrie Evans was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Fleming County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. The result was nothing new for Fleming County, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Fleming County's side, Trinity Flora spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Fleming County let Mackenzie McGlone and Courtney Doyle run wild. McGlone went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Doyle went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Doyle has posted since back in March. Riley Stull also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Nicholas County will challenge West Carter at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fleming County, they will face off against East Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
