Saegertown got a massive performance out of Blake Leslie, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Leslie a new career-high. Wyatt Burchill was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North East narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Conneaut Area 5-3.
Jerek Turlij was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braydon Cornman, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Jayden Wittman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Saegertown's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs. As for North East, their record is now 11-2.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Saegertown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483.
