Baseball Game Preview: Clinton Cougars vs. Turner Trojans

Clinton is 1-9 against Turner since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m.

Delavan-Darien hit Clinton with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell just short of the Comets by a score of 5-4. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gavin Wesling was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Wesling wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Guestchow, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Logan Hendricks also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Turner had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Cheesemakers with a sharp 12-1 win. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Clinton's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Turner, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Clinton came out on top in a nail-biter against Turner when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
