Softball Recap: Rio Linda Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

While Rio Linda put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Tranquillity. The Knights blew past the Tigers 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won seven games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kiera Waggoner made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lani Vanderhoof was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Alexa Mendoza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Rio Linda is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tranquillity, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Rio Linda has already played their next contest, a 7-3 victory against Roosevelt on the 14th. As for Tranquillity, they will face off against Coalinga at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd. The Horned Toads' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
