Volleyball Recap: West Vigo Vikings vs. Clay City Eels
West Vigo kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clay City Eels. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Eels recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
West Vigo actually scored more points across those four sets (88-87), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 12-25, 25-18, 25-23.
Their offense was headlined by Jaycee Elkins and Kylie Marrs, who picked up seven kills apiece. Elkins really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 23. Finally, Jaleigh Lindley kept West Vigo's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
The win got Clay City back to even at 1-1.
West Vigo has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Edgewood on the 20th. As for Clay City, they will welcome North Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be the Eels' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
