Softball Recap: Woodland Regional Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Foran

Woodland Regional faced Foran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Hawks fell just short of the Lions by a score of 1-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on Sunday.

Ella VanAlstyne spent all 13 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 21 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 23 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Woodland Regional saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caitlyn Braun, who went 1-for-5 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Woodland Regional and nudges their season record down to 29-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Foran, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 31-0.

As of now, neither Woodland Regional nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
