Basketball Recap: Merrillville Extends Winning Streak to Three

Merrillville hadn't done well against Penn recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Merrillville Pirates secured a 47-43 W over the Penn Kingsmen. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates who have now won three contests in a row.

Despite the loss, Penn still got an impressive performance from Anna Sachire, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points and five steals. Sachire has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessa Troy, who posted 12 points.

Merrillville's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Penn, they dropped their record down to 6-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Merrillville and Penn should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Merrillville (ranked 92nd) will meet Michigan City (ranked 287th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Penn (ranked 61st) will meet Concord (ranked 229th) at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
