Basketball Game Preview: Okeene Whippets vs. Covington-Douglas Wildcats

The Okeene Whippets will challenge the Covington-Douglas Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Okeene is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Fairview just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a 74-16 loss at the hands of the Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Whippets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 74th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Covington-Douglas). They blew past Cimarron, posting a 61-21 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Covington-Douglas now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Okeene, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Okeene was able to grind out a solid win over Covington-Douglas in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 33-26. Will Okeene repeat their success, or does Covington-Douglas have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
