Basketball Recap: Johns Creek Takes a Loss

Johns Creek lost against Gainesville back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Johns Creek Gladiators fell 45-34 to the Gainesville Red Elephants. While losing is never fun, the Gladiators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while the Red Elephants are ranked 183rd).

When it comes to explaining why Johns Creek lost, don't look at Grace Landeck. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 12 en route to 20 points and three steals. Landeck has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Samy Chandler was another key player, putting up three points.

Even though they lost, Johns Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Leading Gainesville to victory were Julia Payne and Jaucelyn Smith. Payne posted 16 points, while Smith had 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damaria Colburn, who earned six points.

Johns Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Gainesville, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.

The future could be bright for both Johns Creek and Gainesville: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Johns Creek will look to extend Chattahoochee's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gainesville will try to hand Seckinger their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
