The St. Joseph Academy Flashes will venture away from home to take on the Beachside Barracudas at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Joseph Academy has three straight wins, Beachside has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, St. Joseph Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Atlantic Coast, taking the game 5-2.
Garrison Wade made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Sean Miskowiec looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Eli Robshaw was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Willis, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
St. Joseph Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atlantic Coast struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, while it was Beachside who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Tocoi Creek who put up more. Beachside fell just short of Tocoi Creek by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Barracudas have suffered since April 25, 2024.
Beachside also got a good showing from Wyatt Winget, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Beachside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Ochoa, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Jason Gillespie also deserves some recognition as he hit his first hit of the season.
St. Joseph Academy's record now sits at 3-0. As for Beachside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Everything went St. Joseph Academy's way against Beachside in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as St. Joseph Academy made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Joseph Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
