Baseball Game Preview: Kettering Captains vs. Troy Colts

The Kettering Captains will venture away from home to challenge the Troy Colts at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kettering was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Holly on Saturday. The Captains blew past the Bronchos 12-3.

CHASE NANNINI was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Kettering's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 9-11 when he doesn't). NANNINI was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, TYLER YUHAS was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Kettering: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-11 otherwise. ZACH HELKA also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Troy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Stoney Creek 2-1.

Troy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kettering, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Kettering couldn't quite get it done against Troy in their previous meeting back in May of 2021 as they fell 3-0. Can the Captains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
