Basketball Game Preview: Sumner Academy Sabres vs. Highland Park Scots

Sumner Academy hasn't had much luck against Highland Park recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Sumner Academy Sabres will take on the Highland Park Scots at 7:00 p.m. Sumner Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Sumner Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Washington, posting a 68-25 victory. The win continues a trend for the Sabres in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Highland Park suffered their biggest loss since January 31, 2024 on Thursday. They were dealt a 71-22 defeat at the hands of Life Prep. While losing is never fun, the Scots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Fire are ranked 33rd).

Sumner Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Highland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Sumner Academy came up short against Highland Park in their previous meeting back in January, falling 54-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Highland Park's Pearmella Carter, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 20 rebounds.
