Basketball Recap: Clay County Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Clay County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Roane County Raiders by a score of 52-45 on Thursday. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 46-22 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cam Cumpston, who posted 21 points and six boards. Cumpston is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Greathouse, who had six points and eight rebounds.

Clay County's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Roane County, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Clay County has already played their next match (against Doddridge County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Roane County will take on Ravenswood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
