Basketball Recap: Southern Comes Up Short

Southern lost against Pawnee City back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Southern Raiders lost to the Pawnee City Indians on the road by a 45-26 margin.

Leading Pawnee City to victory were Emalyse Gottula and Cara Pierce. Gottula posted 16 points in addition to eight assists and six boards, while Pierce went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Gottula a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Benson, who put up seven points.

Southern dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Pawnee City, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5.

Southern will venture away from home to take on Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Saturday. As for Pawnee City, they will host Parkview Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
