Football Recap: Atlantic Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Atlantic had won four straight road games and Pedro Martinez did his part to make it five on Friday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Coconut Creek Cougars 33-30 for which the team can thank Martinez, who threw for 328 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 97 yards on only eight carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Atlantic's defense made their presence known, laying out Josiah Sanchious three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jvon Hatcher, Josiah Rahming, and Dontrell Murray, who each picked up one sack apiece. Atlantic got some further help from Tyrelle Owens: he made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sanchious, who threw for 149 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 118 yards on only ten carries. Jordan Thompson also helped out as he racked up 143 rushing yards.

Atlantic's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Coconut Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Coming up, Atlantic will welcome Deerfield Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will be up against the Bucks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.57 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Coconut Creek, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Blanche Ely at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
