Basketball Recap: Eastern Mennonite Flames vs. New Covenant Gryphons

Eastern Mennonite was the 63-60 winner over New Covenant when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Eastern Mennonite Flames fell 52-42 to the New Covenant Gryphons on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Flames can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Gryphons are ranked 99th).

Tristan Isenhour was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 8 en route to 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds for New Covenant. Isenhour has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Renalds, who posted seven points and three steals.

Eastern Mennonite dropped their record down to 3-13 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for New Covenant, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-6.

Eastern Mennonite will face off against Hargrave Military Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Covenant, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-45 victory against Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy on the 31st.
