Baseball Game Preview: Milledgeville Missiles vs. Forreston Cardinals

Milledgeville hasn't had much luck against Forreston recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Missiles will venture away from home to square off against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m.

Milledgeville is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 9-1 to Amboy. That's two games in a row now that the Missiles have lost by exactly eight runs.

Meanwhile, Forreston came tearing into Thursday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wolves 11-1. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.

Alec Schoonhoven spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Politsch, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Brendan Greenfield, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Forreston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pearl City only posted a batting average of .143.

Forreston pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Milledgeville, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Milledgeville couldn't quite get it done against Forreston in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Missiles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
