Preview: Mountain Empire Redhawks vs. King-Chavez Community Lions

Mountain Empire is 3-0 against the Lions since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. Both teams will face off at 4:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing is sure in Mountain Empire's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Lions have been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Mountain Empire scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Monarch at home to the tune of 72-26. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Mountain Empire has managed all season.

Mountain Empire got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Corey Vann out in front who almost dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Vann is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Andrew Sepulveda was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Even though King-Chavez Community has not done well against the Lions recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. King-Chavez Community came out on top against the Lions by a score of 46-39. That seven point margin sets a new team best for King-Chavez Community this season.

Everything came up roses for Mountain Empire against the Lions when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 61-22 victory. Will Mountain Empire repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
