Basketball Game Preview: Edison Tigers vs. San Joaquin Memorial Panthers

Edison is 2-8 against San Joaquin Memorial since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Edison Tigers take on the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers at 6:30 p.m.

Edison came up short against Bakersfield on Tuesday, falling 79-53. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 978th, while the Drillers are ranked 212th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Joaquin Memorial, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They strolled past Hanford with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 65-51.

San Joaquin Memorial pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.3 points per game. As for Edison, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Edison and San Joaquin Memorial were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but Edison came up empty-handed after a 76-75 defeat. Can Edison avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
