Basketball Recap: Zion-Benton Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lake Zurich, Zion-Benton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 50-49 victory over the Kelly Trojans.

Jireh Rivera had an outrageously good game as she almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of London Davis, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Zion-Benton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. They pulled down ten more offensive boards than Kelly's also-impressive total of 14.

Defeat or not, Kelly got some senior leadership from Sasha Arriaga Morales and Luz Escudero. Arriaga Morales posted 21 points in addition to seven boards and five assists, while Escudero earned 16 points and three steals. Arriaga Morales continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Zion-Benton's record now sits at 3-24. As for Kelly, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Zion-Benton has already played their next game, a 62-21 loss against Libertyville on the 13th. As for Kelly, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 41-17 win against Noble Street College Prep on the 12th.
