Recap: Tolleson Wolverines vs. Cesar Chavez Champions
The Tolleson Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Cesar Chavez by a score of 57-54. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tolleson in their matchups with Cesar Chavez: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rico Blassingame, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Judah Lancaster, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds.
Cesar Chavez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lex Clontz out in front who scored 17 points along with three steals. Royal Haley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Tolleson has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Cesar Chavez, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tolleson will challenge Shadow Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Shadow Ridge is ranked 133rd, while Tolleson is ranked 130th). As for Cesar Chavez, they will head out on the road to face off against West Point at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
