Baseball Recap: Hillsdale Comes Up Short

Hillsdale extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-12. They lost 8-2 to the Madison Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-2 loss on Thursday.

As for Madison, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

For Madison's part, Ashton Hoag and Cameron Barber were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hoag pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Barber tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hoag went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Barber got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caiden Randall, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hillsdale will face off against Springport at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Madison, they will head out to challenge Ida at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
