Baseball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton was the 11-1 winner over Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Newton fell 7-4 to Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine on Tuesday.

Drake Wolf was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Gavin Meinhart was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record.

Coming up, Newton will host Altamont at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Altamont's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Newton's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, they will venture away from home to challenge Lawrenceville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
