Football Recap: Somerville Skates Past North Hunterdon with Ease

Somerville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past the North Hunterdon Lions 43-14. That 29 point margin sets a new team best for the Pioneers this season.

Aidan Vesuvio-Bush produced another solid effort rushing for 178 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Justin Bowen was another key player, rushing for 52 yards and one TD on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Somerville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 257 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Somerville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Bowen refused to say out of the backfield, picking up a sack all by himself. James Hampton got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Somerville's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for North Hunterdon, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Somerville will take on Plainfield at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Hunterdon, they will face off against East Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.57 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
