Basketball Preview: Compass Academy vs. Tornillo Coyotes
Compass Academy is 0-3 against the Coyotes since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Compass Academy will be playing at home against the Tornillo Coyotes at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Compass Academy was the victim of a rough 49-24 defeat at the hands of the Buffaloes. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Compass Academy in their matchups with the Buffaloes: they've now lost eight in a row.
Compass Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Prieto, who scored four points along with two steals, and John Johnson who scored six points. It was the first time this season that Prieto grabbed two or more steals.
Meanwhile, Tornillo's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 71-56 bruising from Alpine. While losing is never fun, Tornillo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1432nd, while the Bucks are ranked 512th).
Compass Academy dropped their record down to 5-16 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.5 points per game. As for Tornillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
