Baseball Game Preview: Frankfort Panthers vs. Gallatin County Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Frankfort Panthers duke it out with Gallatin County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Frankfort has three straight wins, Gallatin County has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Frankfort had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Shelby County on Wednesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Panthers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th.

Jonathan Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Smith was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season.

Frankfort hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Gallatin County came up short against Walton-Verona on Monday, falling 19-1.

Frankfort's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gallatin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
