League recap: West Jones extends winning streak with victory over Stone

5A Region 3 recap Oct. 3, 2012

West Jones extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 3 this week by beating Stone, 34-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Mustangs.

David Hodo put up the best numbers through the air as Wayne County beat Wingfield. He finished with a total of six completions for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Hodo's favorite target this week was Jerrico Gandy, who caught three passes for 73 yards.

Fred Trevillion was the best wideout in the league this week as Brookhaven lost to McComb. Trevillion racked up six receptions for 79 yards. Genoa Sartin helped Brookhaven's passing attack out by catching two balls for 48 yards.

Trey Keyes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 142 yards on 10 carries as West Jones fell to the Tigers. Teammate Ladorean Oliver added to the ground attack by rushing for 38 yards.

Michael Roberson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Pearl defeated South Jones. He completed eight passes for 144 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 34 yards. Roberson's favorite target this week was Jermany McLaurin, who caught four passes for 53 yards.

The War Eagles' Jarvis Chambers and DeJarvis Chambers have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region 3 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Chambers has thrown for 740 yards this season, while Chambers has 17 catches for 365 yards. The Braves' Ben Cooley leads the league in rushing yards with 562.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wayne County takes on McComb. As it stands, Marcus Boyles's team is in third, while Malcolm Jones's team is in second.

The War Eagles led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on the Falcons. Chambers threw for 93 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 46 yards in the win.
