Basketball Recap: Mt. Clemens Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Mt. Clemens Battling Bathers were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-32 to the Richard Pioneers. The Battling Bathers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Mt. Clemens still got an impressive performance from Leah Williams, who posted 20 points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds. That was a full 62.5% of Mt. Clemens' points, marking the fourth time in a row Williams has scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Barrientos, who had five points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Mt. Clemens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

Mt. Clemens' defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Richard, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-14.

Mt. Clemens and Richard's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Mt. Clemens and Advanced Tech Academy (who has only given up 23 points per game) will meet at 6:00 p.m. on February 28th. Mt. Clemens will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Similarly, Richard will face off against Allen Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a team that's only allowed 24.45 points per game.
