Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

St. Mary entered their contest against Mercy on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The St. Mary's Saints fell just short of the Mercy Magic by a score of 52-49. The Saints just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

When it comes to explaining why St. Mary's lost, don't look at Bailey Harris. Despite the final result, she posted 23 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 46.9% of St. Mary's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey O'Hare, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

St. Mary's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-8. As for Mercy, they moved to 2-7 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

St. Mary's will host Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mercy, they will venture away from home to face off against Dulaney at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
