Basketball Recap: Maclay Comes Up Short

Maclay suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by the Fairhope Pirates and fell 65-30. While losing is never fun, the Marauders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 311th in Florida, while the Pirates are ranked 86th in Alabama).

When it comes to explaining why Maclay lost, don't look at Lauren Guyer. Despite the final result, she went 8 for 16 on her way to 21 points and three steals. Guyer has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played.

Maclay's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Fairhope, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Maclay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-19 loss against Pinson Valley on the 28th. As for Fairhope, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-54 defeat against Rutherford on the 28th.
