Baseball Game Preview: Vidor Pirates vs. Lumberton Raiders

For the second straight game, Vidor will face off against Lumberton. The Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vidor's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Lumberton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Vidor is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Lumberton on Tuesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. Pirates fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Raiders since on Tuesday.

Vidor got a good showing from Alex Bryant, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Bryant has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Vidor saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Rains, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Lumberton has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Vidor, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.

Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Vidor has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Lumberton struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
