Softball Game Preview: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. McClatchy Lions

The Monterey Trail Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the McClatchy Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Monterey Trail's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so McClatchy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, Monterey Trail didn't have quite enough to beat West Park and fell 2-1. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, McClatchy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 8-2 to Inderkum on Wednesday. The Lions have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

McClatchy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Ogata, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Monterey Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for McClatchy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.

Monterey Trail skirted past McClatchy 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Monterey Trail since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
