Volleyball Recap: Caston Comes Up Short

Caston extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-19. They lost 3-0 to the West Central Trojans. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Caston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ripley Beck had 12 digs. Those 12 digs set a new season-high mark for Beck.

As for West Central, with the win, they broke their three-match losing streak and moved their record to 9-9. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since August 21st (when they won 3-0).

Leading West Central to victory were Macie Allen and Ellyse Sparks. Allen had 23 digs, while Sparks had 14 digs. That's the most digs Allen has posted since back in August.

Caston and West Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Comets will face off against Wabash at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (371 vs. 83). Meanwhile, West Central (ranked 285th) will meet Faith Christian (ranked 80th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
